If an Swedish-USA citizen loses their Swedish passport in USA and then flies back to Sweden can they do it on the American or does the airline not believe they are a Swedish citizen and then they have to get a provisional Swedish passport from the embassy and can’t do it on American?

Dual US-Swedish citizen loses Swedish passport in USA..can they fly back to Sweden on only American passport?
